IMPORT/EXPORT

If you want to export/import data from/to oracle databases, here's a general procedure.

I used this to setup a clean oracle database on a new machine.
I took it from Paul's notes. Thanks Paul!

Exporting a schema from the SOURCE

From the DOS prompt:

C:\> exp [username]@[database] rows=y file=*

when prompted for a filename give it a valid filename (eg. export.dmp) or accept default

where:

exp - ORACLE utility program to export data in proprietary format
username - the owner of the schema you wnat to export
database - the source ORACLE database name

Importing the schema to the DESTINATION

Assumptions: Oracle server is up and runnning in the destination machine.

From SQL-Plus: Login as SYSTEM/manager

SQL> create [username] identified by [password] temporary tablespace temp default tablespace users;
SQL> grant dba to [username];

From the DOS prompt:

C:\> imp [username]@[database] file=* full=y

when prompted for a filename, give the it the name of the [export.dmp] you supplied while exporting

where:
imp - ORACLE utility program to import data
username - the destination owner of the schema you want to import
database - the destination ORACLE database name

Hey! I thought it would take me a century to post another blog! But anyway, I have to make a decission (life-turning decission that is), I have about month to decide whether to go with my sister to Singapore, she will be visiting her husband while Ill be trying to look for a job there. My sister is definitely going and me? What about me? Should I go? Should I leave cityhall? Im getting old and opportunities are slowly slipping away. Arrrgghh!

Lack of bloggercising

May 27th, 2005 No comments
Its been a quite a long time since i last posted something in here (hey, one post is better than none!). I was thinking of customizing the page first before getting serious bloggercising (maybe Im just trying to find an excuse). Well.. what have i done lately? Hmmm....
  1. I've been very busy trying to finish my first ever web management tool to be released under GNU (General Public License) done in PHP/MySQL but I still need to deal with security issue (Im a beginner, what do you expect?)
  2. My first OCX! hurray! I cant find a site where i can convert a BMP file to GIF. Well then, if you cant find one, create one. (maybe I can place this somewhere on the net, other people might find it useful, I hope...). You see, I need to finish my Business Permit and Licence Tax Program, I need to incorporate ArcView Shapefiles to VB6. This will help our city to collect more tax from businesses.
  3. Oh, Counter Strike! It really gives me great joy just to see my friends exhibiting their biggest smile (I think all their 72 teeth are showing, hhuh? how many teeth does a normal person has? what's that? Hmmm.. Well, I guess they are not normal afterall). Anyway, how did I accomplish this? I make it a point that they will win after the game.. Thats how. (so much for this so-called butog).
  4. I just received an email and learned that the site I and Ansel developed closed. Thats sad. Anyway, we have another web to work on. Ansel just finished a mini B3 gaming site for Bayantel and now we (Me, Jesse and Ansel) will be working on the Metro Naga Chamber of Commerce and Industries WebSite. (One month to finish, here we go...)
Well, I guess thats it. I hope i can come back next century to post another blog.
