More working foreigners in RP?

February 27th, 2008 No comments

There was a recent report sometime ago about an upsurge of foreigners applying for work visas in my birth republic. More Toms, Dicks & Harrys are flocking to the Philippines taking top jobs whereas the likes of Andres, Teresa & Ronaldo are joining the massive exodus overseas to take jobs from low to mid-level posts. This seems to be the trend these days. Countries have their own people as the primary export. I wonder though if Philippine companies are finding an inadequate pool of local talent to fill those top posts that foreign nationals are awarded the opportunities? Have all the best really took off somewhere greener? I believe there is a lot of exceptional Pinoys/Pinays with strong sense of nationalistic pride (ouch) who all stuck their feet on Philippine grounds.

It’s funny how the world works now – people are spending the most part of their lives taking up residency & occupation in some place but their native land. Everybody has lofty dreams – so high that the very place called home where they were, ironically, taught to dream has to be left behind.

I can’t believe I am saying these things. I myself have gone more than three years back. Perhaps, in my heart, I am wishing things were different - that I didn’t need to leave home. I wish I found promise in my motherland or was I just too restless trying make out the sparkle from the other side of the world and ignoring the bright light that was ahead of me.

And now, the exchange rate is 1SGD=28.75PhP. It has steadily dropped from 32PhP way back 3 years ago when I first landed here. PHISIX is gaining momentum and is favored to further blaze the economic road for this year. In an OFW’s perspective, this news, though resoundingly good , doesn’t sit well with us, with me. Why is that? Because 100SGD will not yield 3000PhP any longer. Oh oh…It will start to really hurt once the rate falls to 25PhP/1SGD by end of this year if all turns out good for the economy. Ouch…ouch…ouch….must I start doing 3 jobs now is it? Is motherland beckoning all her prodigal sons & daughters back? Is it time to come home soon?

“Tano?”

Why?
