TERRA MATER: Solo Exhibit by Vicente Pado, Jr., sarong Bicolano

June 24th, 2011 No comments
Aram co, an primerong ini may icaduwa asin masurunod pa.

Igwa man nin garo baga naghahapot sa capalibutan. An mga agi-agi asin imaginacion ni Jun nagbulos sa cuadra na iyo an nagpalatao sa osipon asin perspectiva na mawot iheras can mga colores nin emocion, gira nin cangangalasan, gurit nin cahaputan, azul nin cawat asin caringgaoan, anino nin catotoohan, asin liwanag nin pangitorogan - gabos sinarama can expriencia ni Jun.

Saro sa mga nagsapod can sacong atencion iyo an obra na "Something for Fishy."

An "Let the Fireflies" iyo an pinacadacula sa gabos. An suno co sa obra na ini iyo an pagtiripon nin mga aqui sa tahao nin mga ramog-ramog na nagtataong liwanag sa diclom. Siisay an dae man nangalas sa mga naglalayog asin maboboot na ramog-ramog? Giromdom co na madaling macadacop caini, alagad nunca puedeng darahon sa harong asin atamanon ta nawawara an ilaw asin mas magayon na yaon sa luwas, talingcas na naglalayog caiba an iba pa.

May mga iba pang obra siring can "Welcome Sun", "Tresplanting" asin "Scent of Affection" na magguguyod pasiring sa mga nacaaging panahon can an kinaban asin oras satuya, can an capalibutan parte can osipon ta, can an cacawat ta si bulan, sira, tubig, anino, cahoy, asin an gabos yaon satong cuadra nin caakian.

Dios mabalos Jun, asin congratulations!

An exhibit madunar hasta Julio 6, 2011 sa Galerie Anna sa 4th Floor sa Megamall, Mandaluyong City.

(Siripon asin salingoyon an satong agi-agi can kita nacacalson/palda o nacachinelas pa lang.)

Summer Holiday

June 22nd, 2011 No comments
Last year I missed the 300th Fiesta in Naga because of a job request. What you gonna do right? But just this month, di naman ako sinama nung nagpa Boracay at Sombrero Island mga kaibigan ko, hanep 'no. A group of umm... fairly new friends asked me to go to Spain with them. Di yan street sa Cubao! The proper country yan. I will have to save up a lot. Di naman kasi tayo mayaman. ahehehe. The plan is on late September but I'm just a wee, wee bit excited. Seryoso kasi sila. First step is finding a travel agent then take care of the visa. Sino kaya pwede masama? ahehe...

José Protasio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda

June 20th, 2011 No comments

One hundred fifty years ago a national hero was born. To a degree, a lot of what he faced that many years ago still haunts us. A corrupt government (albeit, a plutocratic democracy) and a slew of fanatical zealots. The first Filipino's life was impressive. He spoke his mind even when he could have kept silent...contented. Maybe because he saw the true value of the Filipino - beyond the ridicule and self disdain. His love for the country transcended his family and blind faith.
Ironically, his last words were 'It is finished.' For Rizal maybe it was as he laid 7:04 that December morning facing the sun after the thunderous sound of guns.
It is a fight that quietly began on June 19, 1861 in Calamba and a struggle we are reminded in every city hall, public school and one peso coin in the country.

My two daughters have decided to reactivate their blogsite but they don't seem to be keen on having a 'joint' blogsite.. So, they have created their own blogspot account...

Now, I will ask my most common question on behalf of my daughters: "Where do we go from here?"

Garage Junk

June 14th, 2011 No comments

I used to read all sorts of magazines...used to buy loads from the shop. Men's Health. Esquire. Time and unfortunately nasama d'yan ang Garage (for a time).
It was relatively new when I first saw it. I say what the hell...it's Filipino and new so I said, let's see. Try everything once, eh. I would say I THOUGHT I kinda liked it, before. Kasi naman unlike say Esquire or Men's Health most people (by that I mean masang filipino - tulad ako) can actually afford what they are selling yun lang nga ang labas the magazine became a catalouge. Feature articles never really did change...they were cheesy and tacky and recycled. Fashion this. Style this. How to achive looks.
Cover models looks like they came from a Topman Outlet store and tripped on a makeup stand along the way - geez. Worst, the cover page is an exercise in recognizing fonts; to be fair I heard they were challenged to use all the imaginable fonts in one year.
Why the rant? Sayang lang kasi. I really think it could have achieved so much more.
Maybe like ermm... Esquire or Vanity Fair, they manage to mix it up. Serious in one side, quirky on the other but no Garage seems to be happy to live off the crumbs, beneath the shadow of men's style magazine.
So that's 200 bucks on my pocket. Countless hours to be saved.

E c c o   m o r m o r a r   l ‘ o n d e,
E tremolar le fronde
A l’aura mattutina, e gli arboscelli,
E sovra i verdi rami i vaghi augelli
Cantar soavemente,
E rider l’Oriente

And the boughs and the shrubs tremble
in the morning breeze,
And on the green branches the pleasant birds
Sing softly
And the east smiles

time contracts in us.
the shadows withdraw,

Aptness for joy is in the way she’s made —
her heart has knowledge which excels the rest
as heaven’s sphere is greater than the earth

endless spaces beyond,

Her kindness showed in tender glances,
wind-flushed cheeks. At least that’s how it seemed.
I was walking tinder, I took chances.
The next part might be something that I dreamed

A  f i e r y  l i g h t n e s s  i n  h e r  b e a r i n g ,
a voice that wasn’t mortal—it was song,
a sort of angel presence she was wearing.
She was a thing from heaven

F r e s h  n e w  r o s e
of a pleasant spring,
where the river goes
I gaily sing

Fresca rosa novella,
piacente primavera,
per prato e per riviera
gaiamente cantando

tangled and golden in the air.
Unmeasurable light was in her eyes
(how fine they were!) and now that look is rare.

E le campagne imperla il dolce gelo,
E gli alti monti indora:
O bella e vaga.
L’aura è tua messaggera, e tu de l’aura

Now dawn already appears
And mirrors herself in the sea,
And makes the sky serene,
And the gentle frost impearls the fields
And gilds the high mountains:
O beautiful and gracious,
