It’s (Merry) Christmas!

December 24th, 2011 No comments

I'm glad I'm free at Christmas Eve, I'm not so happy I have to work on Christmas AND New Years Day. It would have been fine if I have the bank account to show for it - but no, my last payslip is embarrassing. So here I am, greeting people off of Facebook with the festive ham thawing, just waiting to be ready for the get together later. Me and the ham are listening to Bishop Allen's You'll never find my Christmas. Waiting.
The lead up to Christmas is hectic. Procrastinators, like myself wait 'till the last minute to get gifts. The lull after Christmas is a bliss, you can still feel that afterglow. No traffic. Kids - although, I don't have one - quiet and content with their presents.
What do I really know about Christmas? I may be a bit to old for Santa but a bit to young to preach about what Christmas is all about. There seem to be a lot of talk going around about brining back the true meaning of Christmas. Too much consumerism and lack of religious virtues. The sad thing is for many of the preachers, they won't leave their pedestal and will be satisfied to leave it at that.
By Christmas, it will be less than a week before the year comes to a close. 2011 went by really quickly. I can say I've learned a lot; grew up a wee bit and realized I want things to slow down even more. I have learned that snow is overrated, apple products are expensive, hazelnut syrup with coffee is awesome, walking is better than taking a pedicab and that the smile that gifts bring no matter how expensive are fleeting and most importantly Christmas should be a celebration of what we have. Hope is the afterglow.
...at least that's what I tell the ham.

Merry Christmas, Indeed

December 20th, 2011 No comments
Many people might not feel the Christmas fever this year. What with the storms devastating the south and the economic crisis gripping national markets big and small. However, there is a small victory this year - the end of the Iraq War. Finally.

Bicol Autonomy Movement (BAM) updates

December 5th, 2011 No comments
The oratorical contest on Bicol autonomy has been successfully completed in three provinces: Albay, Camarines Sur, and Camarines Norte. The champions from these provincial eliminations (including the winners from the upcoming eliminations in the Provinces of Sorsogon, Masbate, and Catanduanes) will be competing in the regional championship!

A research paper on the economic viablity of Bicol autonomy will be completed soon. It explores the various economic variables that affect the performance of the region within the broader national context. BAM will sponsor a public presentation of the initial findings this month!

BAM expresses its gratitude to the Coalition for a Citizens Constitution (C4CC) for inviting us into their national consultations on charter change and regional autonomy. Bicol autonomy was presented in Cagayan de Oro City, DAvao City, Tacloban City, and Naga City.

Our gratitude also for the individuals, organizations, and institutions that took part in the focus group discussion on Bicol autonomy conducted in Loyola Heights, Quezon City. Your ideas and inputs will become part of the working draft of the proposed Charter for the Bicol Autonomous Region!

And last, but not the least, our gratitude for the legal minds within the Bicol Autonomous Movement that will draft the working paper locating the BAM advocacy within the broader context of charter change.

Mabuhay ang Bicol Autonomy! Mabuhay ang Bicol!
