Robredo

August 23rd, 2012 No comments
It is with some pride that Naguenos can say that Jesse Robredo was a great mayor. I'm sure a lot of people have read articles extolling how he changed Naga into a vibrant city; but for a lot of us Naguenos the story is more likely personal
For me it was seeing him a couple of years back when I was still in Naga jogging alone around Basillica Minore during an early morning. He was cordial and more importantly didn't stood nor did he wish to stand out. He gave out a feeling like you knew him. Similar to your next door neighbor who you  are confidently close enough to discuss mundane issues with. He's the kind of politico who knows he hasn't got all the answers and looks and treats everyone else as equals.
I liked him even better when I heard that he supported the RH Bill. That's because, Naga being home to religious fanatics, it would have been easier and more popular to bow to the bishops. Fortunately, the pragmatist in him won.
One only needs to look at the numerous pictures on the web of him serving  as a voyadores to see that regardless of any divisive issues he was a real devotee to the Penafrancia. . It was a promise to serve - a promise he and many more Bicolanos make and fulfills. This pledge is a true testament of any voyadores. A dedication to service he has embodied in his more than two decades in public servie -truly a man for others.

The web and the social media is filled with adorations for this great man and rightfully so. He was typically Bicolano in every way. Spiritual but not dogmatically blind. Polite but not a pushover. A hard worker but one who recognizes the intrinsic value of the family and more importantly he will always find his way home.
Dios Mabalos. Jesse Robredo
